 Excerpt
“Ella,”
he rasps. “You’re gonna fuckin’ kill me. Sweet Jesus, baby.” He closes
the distance between us in two strides. When he’s close enough, his
hands grip on my hips and pull me into him. Our bodies clash, my blood
ignites.
Need washes through me. Damon’s scent envelopes me, he smells pure male.
My chest heaves as I look up into his eyes, my breasts brushing against
his chest with every inhale.
“I can see everything, beauty. Every fucking thing. The rounded globes
of your perfect arse, the mound of your pussy, the dimples at the back
of your knees.” His hands move down to grip my arse cheeks. He squeezes
roughly before pulling me into his hard cock. I moan as the move hits
the perfect spot. “God, I need to keep you.”

Sweeter Excerpt
“Morning,”
he whispers into my neck as he nuzzles. I gasp at the soft stroke of
his tongue on my neck. “I can smell you. I’ll have your scent stuck in
my head all day. I need a taste.” He sucks my earlobe into his mouth as
he nibbles me. “Just one taste. I have to have one taste.” The huskiness
of his desire filled voice makes my knees weak. I melt into his body,
letting the feelings he’s evoking within me take over.

Genres: Romance/Military/New Adult

Will his call of duty break both their hearts?

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie

James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As

a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph’s only

goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester.

She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work

and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New

Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph

finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who

curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from

the hills of Kentucky. Growing up as the son of a major

general has given Brandon firsthand knowledge of the

struggles military families sometimes face. Now that his

father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more

determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an

officer in the United States Army. Then he meets

Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military

service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen

his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment

toward the military, he worries their relationship is

doomed.

When faced with the realization that she’s fallen in love

with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be

healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Kim’s Review

4 Stars
This is a light and easy read. Steph has always hated the military because she lost her father during Desert Storm. She is focused and driven to graduate and become a teacher. Since her father died her mom struggled for years as a single parent, who never remarried. I feel that made Steph’s hatred for the all things military.

Brandon struggles to be there for his family and be at school. His dad the commander spends most days not remembering things. Brandon wants to make his father proud and so he is focused on getting out of school and getting into the military. All of that changes when he meet Steph.
I felt like they were fun together and there were a lot of cute 80’s one liners and themes in the book, which was fun considering I grew up in the 80’s! This is a pretty PG13 book but it still is a good book and I recommend you pick up a copy today!

Review:The Dead Tree by Lori L. Clark

Title: The Dead Tree

Author: Lori L. Clark

Genre: New Adult Romantic Mystery/Family Saga

Expected Release: June 10, 2014

Synopsis

A young woman seeks to uncover the truth behind the legend surrounding the dead tree on the property she’s inherited so she can clear her Great Aunt’s name.

“The town of Steele Grove, Missouri sits high along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Legends run rampant around town about crazy Blythe Fountain, who discovered her beau hanging from the oak tree in the family’s front yard. A short time later, two of her friends mysteriously disappeared, never to be seen, or heard from again.

Eighty years later, Ariel Fountain has inherited the property, and after catching her boyfriend cheating on her, decides she needs a change of scenery and runs headlong to a place shrouded in superstition and family mysteries which may be better off left unsolved.

Ariel sets out with the help of a local man, Grady, to uncover the truth behind the hanging and the girls’ disappearances. What Ariel discovers is a secret so horrific she wishes she would have left it buried.”

Excerpt

The engine of the Bobcat sputtered a few times before dying. Grady swore and climbed down from the machine. I watched him out of the corner of my eyes as he sauntered up the hill. His feet stopped right under my nose. “I have to run back to town and get some gas.”

I raised my head and stared at his gorgeous pale blue eyes. He surprised me by holding my gaze.

“Um, I think there’s some in the garage. I’ll check, if you’d like,” I offered. He was still watching me intently. I blinked and looked away. I reached behind me to push myself off the ground and immediately felt a searing pain in my left palm. I jerked my hand back and felt something warm trickle down my wrist. I’d just managed to impale my hand on the garden shears I’d laid in the grass behind me. “Damn.”

Grady knelt beside me, gently taking my hand in his. He inspected the wound, while I was too afraid to see how bad it was. Judging from the way it felt, it wasn’t good. “You’re gonna need stitches,” he said.

My eyes went round. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, Ariel, I’m sure.” He quickly removed his t-shirt and wrapped it around my bleeding hand. I grimaced when I caught sight of the amount of blood trailing down my arm. “Hold it above your heart and apply pressure with your other hand.”

The edges of my vision went dark, and I thought I was going to pass out. Not from the loss of blood, I was squeamish when it came to the sight of blood. I whimpered and wobbled on my feet. “Oh, shit.”

Grady wrapped his arm around my waist and half carried me to his pickup. He opened the passenger door and helped me inside. “You okay?”

I shook my head no but said, “Yes.”

He laughed. “Hang in there.”

As it turns out, I had a pretty nasty gash. Fourteen stitches and some kick ass pain meds later, we were on our way back home. “Thank you,” I whispered.

“Let this be a lesson,” he said.

I peered sideways at him. “A lesson? For what?”

“I told you, you jinxed yourself when you said you weren’t accident-prone, and look what happened.”

I rolled my eyes. “Pfft. As if.”

He chuckled. “One of these days, you’ll trust my superstitious nature.”

I lowered my eyes and nodded. “We’ll see.”

When we returned from town, Grady shut the truck off and jumped out. He hurried around to open my door and help. The warmth of his hand radiated through my tank top when he pressed it against my lower back and guided me toward the front door. “Let’s get you inside. I think it’s safe to say you can have the rest of the day off, Princess.”

The pain meds must have made me loopy, because I would never have said what I said next, had I been in my right frame of mind. “If I’m a princess, then you must be my knight in shining armor.”

“Something like that,” he said softly.

Vyckie’s Review

I’d give The Dead Tree three stars, while I wanted to love the story line, I simply couldn’t.

Ariel is first catches her boyfriend of many years in the arms of not just one woman but two.. who just so happen to be her best friends. Within days of this she on a plane moving to St. Louis where her great aunts untimely death has left her with everything. Ariel was now very wealthy yet living with the rumors and secrets of her family’s name.

It was said her great Aunt Blythe’s first love Grayson, was found dead, suicide, and two girls gone missing. The way the story line played out with this was hit or miss. I wasn’t sure if reading Blythe’s memoir or the town’s rumour mill would lead us to what happened to these three.

The ending is just how you believe it’s going to be, with the exception of what’s under the tree. It less a few different ways of what Ariel May do them simply ends starting “karma has an uncanny way of landing a helping hand….. ”

New Author New Release! Where There is Smoke by Sarabeth Caplin

Synopsis

Pastor Henry Collins is hailed as a hero after rescuing a teenage girl from a burning church. But the real reason he was at the right place at the right time is known only to him and Hannah Mercer, the teenage girl he rescued: a girl whose faith has more to do with keeping up appearances than anything to do with God.

Lia Anders is a classmate of Hannah’s: a girl whose coming out as a lesbian resulted in immediate expulsion from the church. As an unlikely friendship develops between the two, Hannah begins to realize the error of her hypocritical ways, and encourages Henry to make a decision that will forever alter the course of their lives. But for Henry, the price of living a lie is easier than owning up to the truth.

Where There’s Smoke is a story that asks: who are we really? Are we the sum of all our actions? And is the note we finish our lives on the most defining of them all?

Excerpt

As wisps of smoke curled under Hannah’s nose, she wondered if it had finally happened: she’d woken up to find herself in hell.
I had it coming, she thought, defeated and unwilling to move from the darkness of the church basement. She felt no fear; apathy did not allow for much feeling of anything. It’s all a dream anyway.
Until alarm bells starting screeching, and then it became reality.
Suddenly alert, Hannah felt panic settle in as the air thickened and her eyes watered. Hannah never considered hell to be a place of literal fire. She placed more faith in Dante’s idea of it than the Bible’s. But this–this literal choking agony–it couldn’t be what she deserved, could it? She was sorry–desperately sorry. For everything.
As a wall of smoke started to close in on the last she’d know of the world, fighting back seemed like a futile option. She’d been running too long. This ending was inevitable. It was deserved.
She closed her eyes, ready to meet whoever or whatever might be waiting. A sturdy pair of arms lifted her from the searing floor, but she didn’t bother opening her eyes, realizing there was nothing she could do now that the devil had caught up with her.

Excerpt:
Amanda enters into the room, quickly closing the door behind her. “Oh, hey. Didn’t expect anyone to be in here yet.”
She goes to her bed and hops up. “What did you do today? Anything fun after the drop?”…Courtney trembles.
“Yo, babe! What’s up?” She says sarcastically, with a New Yorkers accent.
“A police officer…”
Amanda stops her. “No, a donut muncher.”
Courtney swallows. “A donut muncher chased me and Kara earlier. I don’t know if Kara made it.”
“Awe, shit. That’s tuff luck.” Amanda holds the bottom of her boot with one hand as she tries pulling it off.
“What if they caught her?”
“There’s a lot of what ifs. She’s a big girl. I’m sure she’ll be fine.” Amanda tosses her boot to the corner of the room. She slides off her socks, letting her feet air out as she wiggles her toes.
“You aren’t worried?” Courtney is confused. She felt all the girls thought better of one another.
“No. She put on her big girl panties this morning. Why would I be concerned?”
Courtney lays back onto the bed hearing the door squeak open. Seeing Kylee she flies over to her. “Go downstairs with me?”
“Sure.” She looks at Amanda and she shrugs, pulling the left side of her face down, shaking her head.
As the two girls reach the door Dane puts his hand up. “You two are staying in for the night.”
“Dane this will only take a minute. We are only going right out front.” Kylee eyes him.
He motions no with his head, returning his arms crossed to his chest.
“Look!” Courtney speaks louder. “You will see us, dammit.”
Dane squints his eyes, definitely not happy with Courtney as his nostrils widely open. “You have five minutes.”
“The pigs followed us earlier today. Kara and I split up and she still hasn’t made it back today.”
Kylee’s eyes grow wide. “Oh, that could be a problem.”
“If she didn’t beat me back, do you think they got her?”
“If they did she is toast.”
Courtney lowers her head. “That’s what I was afraid of.”….

My best friend was dying and I was in love with his girl.

Andy and I had been best friends since we were eight-years old.

Watching him slowly fade away, ever closer to his final breath, made me so incredibly angry. I knew there was nothing I could do to change it–I had given in to despair, but Andy had not. He had one last hand to play.

He wasn’t going to simply sit back and wait for Death to claim him–not Andy. He was going to live life until he couldn’t hold his eyes open any longer.

Andy didn’t want to die in some sterile hospital and asked me to take him and Emily to the beach. It would be our last road trip together.

Emily. Emily was a problem for me.

I harbored a secret that would have torn our friendship apart. I was in love with Andy’s girl, and had been since she’d walked into our sixth grade class, so many years ago.

So what kind of person am I? My best friend is dying, and it’s awful–but my heart still aches for his girl. I hate myself for thinking beyond Andy’s death and whether there could ever be a future for Emily and I, but I can’t help it.

I’m in love with her.
